Currently, Islam is the fastest growing religion and takes up about 20% of the world's population. In January, 2011, there was about 1.62 billion Muslims around the world, about 1 in 4 people. Islam is still growing and will continue to grow for a very long time.

Just last year (2011), bombs were placed in many Muslim countries such as Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. This caused many people to die, so many that it can't be calculated. Many countries are attacking Islam because of terrorists (like in 9/11). People have stereotyped that, because of the terrorist attack on 9/11, that all Muslims are bad and want to hurt other people.

On the contrary, many Muslims live peaceful lives and simply following their religion. I think it's unfair because a whole group of people can be disliked because of a few untrustworthy people. People are going to war (both in America and Islamic countries included) because of hate and distrust.

Current events in Islam is like many other countries. War, peace, financial problems, religious problems. In a way, Islam isn't that different from us and America.
